Research Question
Are mussel reefs in the Belgian part of the North Sea a CO2 source or sink?

Currently pursuing a PhD at Ghent University and Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) in the scope of the Coastbusters FINESSE project. My research aims to understand how carbon cycling in the water column and the sediment is altered by the presence of blue mussels, and how this might affect the carbon sequestration capacity in the Belgian part of the North Sea.
