Research Question
How can "planting a million seagrasses" protect our coastlines from climate change and sea level rise?

Seagrass meadows are powerful ecosystem engineers that maintain the resilience of our coastlines while supporting biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. Exploring new ways to restore this habitat is especially important to offset the rapid loss that this ecosystem is experiencing.

My PhD aims at improving restoration methodologies for both intertidal and subtidal Zostera marina meadows, and their recovery following restoration actions, with a specific focus on the interplay between growth and ecosystems. This fits seamlessly with the investigation of strategies to improve plant propagation for this specific species, by studying novel micropropagation techniques and the controlling mechanisms of the regulation of seed germination.

Improving strategies for seagrass propagation is pivotal for enabling successful seagrass restoration efforts.
