Rita Melo Franco-Santos

Rita Franco-Santos is a student from the MARES joint PhD programme and her work is being conducted between Ghent University (Marine Biology Research Group) in Belgium and Universität Bremen and the Alfred Wegener Institute in Germany. Over the past two years she has conducted experiments to determine copepod vital rates (respiration, growth, consumption, a.o.) and dietary fatty acid assimilation in relation to food source. The results obtained will enable her to investigate the effects of different food regimes on the performance of dominant copepod and meroplanktonic species in the North Sea and Arctic.
